Little Crochet

My 7-year-old clamored to be taught how to crochet. Last Holy Week, we finally got to sit quietly and I taught her the basics. We started with finger crochet (chains), then quickly moved on to simple chains using the hook.

After a day of whines (“so hard, Mommy”) and near-frustration, she did learn how to do it. She’s always been a very determined, persevering kid. She now knows single crochet and has memorized the steps “insert hook, yarn over, pull through loop, yarn over, pull through two loops”. I’ve even seen her crocheting with her eyes on the TV! Funny.

Yesterday, I surprised her with three skeins of acrylic yarn. She was so thrilled and I find it amusing that this morning, she brought them along for breakfast.

It’s so gratifying to be able to share what we love with the ones we love. Next step – double crochet.

  1. Omg that is so cute. That is such a good thing to grow up knowing.

    • Thanks so much. I am quite thrilled and can’t wait to do projects with her.
